In the process of transferring EU law into domestic legislation, the Government has used ‘Henry VIII powers’ to remove a requirement for legal penalties to be “effective,  proportionate and dissuasive”, weakening protections on issues such as food safety, fisheries, pesticides and air quality. News: Teesside University starts its own Veg Patch

A weekly stall entitled “Veg Patch” was set up at the Teesside University campus using locally grown and surplus vegetables, herbs and fruit and providing simple, seasonal recipes to students and staff. The objective is to increase vegetable consumption in the University community and introduce an awareness of local fruit and vegetable production.

News: Think tank publishes briefing on post-Brexit funding for UK nations and regions

The IPPR has today released a paper about the future UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The Fund, promised in the Conservative Party manifesto in 2017, is supposed to replace EU funding after Brexit. But frustration has been growing amongst politicians and policy makers, especially in devolved nations, as a consultation into the future fund has been delayed, and the amount that will be allocated is unclear.

The Government had been expected to make an announcement about future tariffs on imports to the UK this week, but a paper on the impact of a ‘No Deal Brexit’ (released on Tuesday 26 February) said only that it was expected ‘soon’.
