Figures suggest that the percentage of people who fall ill with food poisoning annually is up to ten times higher in the US than the UK. North Lanarkshire Council is planning to provide free meals to low income families 365 days a year. This is part of efforts to tackle 'holiday hunger'. The council will pilot the initiative over the Easter holidays and could then extend into the summer holidays.
