The Government has been warned it will face legal proceedings if it fails to provide free school meals over the summer holidays, in a letter issued by lawyers acting on behalf of Sustain and Good Law Project. Yesterday, the Government announced that it will not extend a national food voucher system for children over the summer.

News: The Government is poised to allow chlorine chicken imports from the US

There are reports today  that the UK Government is prepared to permit imports of chlorinated chicken from the US but will impose tariffs on the most low standard produce to protect UK farmers. Sustain perceives a complex problem at the local level: on the one hand, emergency food provision is being stepped down too quickly, leaving people more vulnerable to hunger; on the other hand, much of this food aid is being provided in ways that are unsustainable in the longer term. We advocate the maintenance of emergency food provision, but amended, in accordance with certain key principles set out below. We illustrate each principle with examples of work in practice.
