Get your applications in for the next round of the Scottish Community Food Fund which aims to promote local food and drink. Financed by the Scottish government, the fund would welcome applications from community food and health groups that want to support the development of food trails and network or establish local food and drink events. The closing date for applications is 4th June.

News: Community Food and Health (Scotland) Funding Opportunities

Community Food and Health (Scotland) funding opportunities for 2015 will open on 12 June. This year they are looking for groups involved in food and health activities in low-income communities. CFHS are offering capacity building funds of up to £500 and development funds of up to £5000. Go to the CFHS website from 12 June to find out more.

News: Climate change undermines the right to food

Friends of the Earth have warned that unless international governments take action on an ambitious climate change deal, vital resources of food and water will face increasingly severe challenges. In a briefing ahead of the United Nations climate talks in Paris later this year, Friends of the Earth outline how agriculture exacerbates the problems posed by climate change.This, they warn, threatens the right to food enshrined in UN agreements and guidelines.

News: Organic Trade Board Responds to Milk Health Research

Support for organic milk has appeared in a letter to the Guardian by the Organic Trade Board this week. In the letter the OTB emphasised demand for organic milk which has seen a growth in sales over the past year. This is in contrast to falling sales in the standard milk sector. News: Organic Food For Everyone

Working class households make up nearly one third of organic sales and Sustain member the Soil Association say this shows organic food is not a middle-class niche. Helen Browning, chief executive of the Soil Association called for an end to patonising assumptions that those on lower incomes don't care about animal welfare, the environment and better food. LEAF's (Linking Environment And Farming) Open Farm Sunday is a national open day for the faming industry. Meet a farmer, go on a farm walk or take part in farm activites on Sunday 7th June 2015. Hundreds of events are planned, each event unique with its own activities. The day aims to give eveyone, young and old, the opportunity to discover first hand what it means to be a farmer and the work they do to produce our food and manage the countryside.

Sustain member The Vegetarian Society are sending their Cookery School to seven UK locations where they'll be cooking the pizzas and handing them out for free! News: Milan Expo 2015: MEPs call for genuine global food security

MEPs have voted in a resolution to use the 2015 Milan Expo to encourage sustainable agriculture, promote fairness in the supply chain and fight food waste and malnutrition. MEPs voted by 460 to 126 in favour of the resolution and urged the EU to use the Milan Expo 2015 to press for urgent solutions to the global food security challenge.

News: Support Kye's bikeride fundraiser for Children's Food Campaign

One teenager has got so fed up with being bombarded by marketing for energy drinks and sugary snacks, that he has been inspired to cycle around Holland to raise funds for the Children's Food Campaign and to promote our work. Kye Viney set off on 1st May with his dad to cycle the 1500km of the Ronde von Nederland route.  He is making good progress, despite some stormy weather early on.
