News: Eating Better welcomes US dietary recommendations

Eating Better have welcomed new recommendations from the US 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee. The Committee have, for the first time, advised that American citizens should eat less meat and more plant-based foods as well as less refined sugar, processed meats, salt and fat. They took into account the safety and sustainabilty of diets as well as their health outcomes. Eating Better called for the UK government to follow suit by updating the UK's dietary guidelines to include sustainability. Sustain are a founding member of the Eating Better alliance.

News: New briefing warns EU trade talks threaten food safety and animal welfare

Friends of the Earth Europe, Compassion in World Farming, IATP, Grain and the Centre for Food Safety have produced a new briefing on the controversial TTIP trade agreement. The briefing warns the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, a trade agreement being negotiated between the US and the EU, could threaten healthy sustainable diets by putting trade interests ahead of food safety concerns, as well as shifting power from national governments to a new trade committee.

News: Pesticide Action Network calls for ban on Highly Hazardous Pesticides

PAN International are calling for a global phaseout and ban of Highly Hazardous Pesticides (HHPs), to be replaced with safe sustainable and ecological alternative methods of pest control. PAN have launched a petition arguing that the safe use of HHPs is not possible and asking people and organisations to sign up.  They are hoping for a global groundswell of support for agricultural communities worldwide.
