Scotland’s plans for farming are ‘underwhelming’
Nourish Scotland (who are part of Sustain) believe that recent government publications on the future of Scottish agriculture give no clear direction for farming after Brexit.
Three key documents on the future of Scottish agriculture have recently been published:
- National Council of Rural Advisers (NRACA)' discussion document 'A rural conversation'
- Agricultural Champions' report 'A Future Strategy for Scottish Agriculture: Final Report by the Scottish Government's Agriculture Champions'
- Scottish Government's discussion document 'Stability and Simplicity proposals for a rural funding transition period'
Nourish Scotland believe that despite some positives, these publications are underwhelming and give “no clear direction for future agricultural and rural policies, and little signs that improving the environment and public health will be at the heart of our future farming policy.” They have written responses to the NRCA and Agricultural Champions publications and will respond to the Scottish government’s consultation over the summer.
Sustain campaigns for a food and farming policy which benefits the environment, health, animals and farmers and is working towards a positive Brexit.
