Mayor appoints Claire Pritchard to lead the London Food Board

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has appointed Claire Pritchard as the new Chair of the London Food Board.

Claire has been a member of the Board since 2005, and Chief Executive of Greenwich Cooperative Development Agency (GCDA) for more than a decade. She brings nearly 30 years’ experience of the food sector to her new role and - we are pleased to say - is a London Food Link supporter, having worked with our London network many projects over the years.

Claire’s has set up restaurants, developed training for businesses to sell healthier food, managed urban food-growing projects, and set up and run markets, community food access projects and fruit-and-veg box schemes.  This makes her ideally set to take on this role, which she takes over from previous chair Rosie Boycott who stepped down earlier this year.

The London Food Board advises the Mayor on a range of areas, including the development and delivery of the forthcoming new London Food Strategy (due later this year), which will help all Londoners to access more healthy and sustainable food.  Fellow board members also include Sarah Williams, part of Sustain’s London Food Link team (who publish the Jellied Eel mag).

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “I’m delighted to appoint Claire to this important role. London has one of the most vibrant, exciting food scenes in the world and the London Food Board has a vital role in supporting London’s growers, producers and retailers, not to mention all the important work ahead in promoting sustainability and helping all Londoners access healthy food.”

The Board’s work aligns with the Mayoral priorities of helping create a healthier and more sustainable city, and London Food Link have been working hard to ensure that all the forthcoming strategies reference food.
