How does a mature (15 years and counting) charity project secure media coverage and generate a social media buzz to keep getting our messages across?
With ever-increasing costs, Sustain also needs to raise more dough in order to keep running the Real Bread Campaign and build capacity to increase our positive impact.
Echoing John F. Kennedy’s 1961 inaugural speech as US President, the Real Bread Campaign is calling on its supporters and other friends to consider how you can help us step up to these challenges.

There are plenty of ways you can help us to spread the word about your Campaign and its work, particularly if you run a business. They include:
Maybe you could even become a Campaign ambassador.
The Campaign supporter subscription scheme is our main source of income but there are other ways that you can help to fund our work.

Run by the food and farming charity Sustain since 2008, the Real Bread Campaign is THE organisation in the UK finding and sharing ways of making bread better for us, better for our communities and better for the planet.
Working towards a future in which everyone has the chance to choose Real Bread, we champion Real Bread and the people who make and eat it, while challenging obstacles to their rise.

The Campaign has received no charitable funding for more than a decade but we’re open to, and continue to explore, grant funding opportunities. We do not accept corporate sponsorship or advertising on our website.
Unless we can raise more funds over the next six months, Sustain will have to implement cost-cutting measures before the end of the year.
The charity is currently able to employ one part-time staff member dedicated to the Campaign. Losing even one of these days would be a 25% reduction in staff time. This would have a severely negative effect on our ability to carry out project work, lobby for improved legislation, promote the Real Bread sector, and challenge industrial practices that run counter to our vision and values. It would also feed into a vicious circle of reduced capacity to run the Campaign supporters’ network and secure other income.
While few people say that True Loaf magazine is the main reason they’re a Campaign supporter, it remains a popular benefit. Switching to digital-only might reduce the incentive for people to join us and could feed into some people’s decision to end their support.
