Finders fee for English speaking farmworkers
A labour body has introduced a £200 fee for finding people who speak good English as competition for seasonal agricultural workers grows.
Horticulture Weekly are reporting that the seasonal workers recruitment agency Concordia have introduced a £200 finders fee. Concordia say this is because agents are finding it more expensive to find proficient English speakers to work in horticulture. A significant proportion of this fee will be paid to the agent as commission, to compensate them for the additional resources they are spending.
Vicki Hird, Sustain’s Farming Campaign Coordinator comments:
“How telling that the horticulture industry is having to pay recruitment agents extra for seasonal English speaking skills and agents will pocket a significant portion of the extra fee. We need to invest far more in attracting workers for vital food production by paying well and providing decent work conditions.”
