Where to find Real Bread: Sourdough September 2026

The main two ways* of being able to enjoy delicious, nutritious Real Bread are to buy it or BIY (bake it yourself).

*if you're lucky, your other options might include a public sector meal (e.g. school, nursery, hospital or care home) or someone nice making it for you.

Sourdough September
If the Real Bread you're seeking is genuine sourdough, check out this month's sensationally simple sourdough swap.

BIY

Whether by hand or digging out an under-used machine, making your own Real Bread is simple, doesn’t take much of your time and (because you don’t have a small bakery’s staff costs, overheads etc.) is very affordable.

We have tips and around 100 free recipes on our website, which is also where you can buy our Real Bread books.

Buy it

Our Real Bread Map enables you to search for places to buy Real Bread (by our definition) from bakeries that have added their details.

We invite every bakery in the world that makes at least one type of Real Bread to create a free listing. If your local bakery is missing, please pass on our invitation to them!

Look for The Loaf Mark!

While you’re out and about, keep your eyes peeled for The Real Bread Loaf Mark and The Sourdough Loaf Mark. There are now more than 200 bakeries licensed to use The Loaf Mark: see below.

What about supermarkets?
If you're wondering why we focus on championing home baking, and small, indie Real Bread bakeries (rather than giving free publicity to companies that have multi-million-pound marketing budgets) please see this article. To date, no supermarket has ever chosen to join the Campaign or become a Loaf Mark licensee.
