MEPS and French chefs demand investigation of Monsanto-Bayer merger

Gigantic, newly formed agrochemicals corporation poses a threat to competition, biodiversity and choice, say protestors 

Following the recent merger of two agrochemical giants, Monsanto and Bayer, a group of MEPs has called for an investigation of the deal, which they say would give the new company a disproportionate concentration of power with 30% of the world’s seeds and 24% of the global pesticides market. The group is led by the Green MEP Michèle Rivasi.
 
It has been backed by a set of prominent French chefs, who have also called on the EU to intervene in the deal, saying that Europeans plates are being invaded by 'agrochemistry', and that the power of the pesticide companies is a threat to biodiversity and to farmers' control over what they can grow.
