Brexit watchers will be aware that one of the most complex and contested areas in the impending reorganisation of the UK's food and farming policies in the wake of the referendum vote is likely to concern the use of agrichemicals.
At a recent workshop organised by the British Crop Protection Council, a range of stakeholders from the agriculture and agrichemical sectors had a chance to meet the pesticides regulator, the Chemicals Regulation Directorate (CRD).
According to
Horticulture Week, the message was loud and clear that there was a desire to move from hazard-based pesticide regulation to a risk-based approach. Campaign groups such as Sustain member Pesticides Action Network fear this represents a dilution of hard-won regulation, as set out
