Barking and Dagenham takes Sustainable Fish Pledge

The London borough has become the latest to pledge that all fish in their school meals service will be demonstrably sustainable.

The Borough have signed the Sustainable Fish Cities pledge, which covers primary and secondary school meals; a total of more than 3.5 million meals per year. The commitment will support fisheries and fish farms that are proved to be working sustainably, and from stocks that are healthy.

Sustainable Fish Cities is a campaign aiming to kick unsustainable fish off menus in the UK for good. The pledge comes ahead of the autumn publication of Sustain’s Good Food For London Report, which ranks London Boroughs on how well they support sustainable, healthy food and are tackling local food poverty.

The Good Food For London report is produced by London Food Link – find out more, including how your borough performed last year at the Good Food For London website.

Sustainable Fish: A campaign to protect precious marine environments and fishing livelihoods, and call for fish to be bought from sustainable sources. We want to show what can be done if people and organisations make a concerted effort to change their buying habits.
