Sustainable chippies win top prizes

Almost half the winners in the 2016 National Fish and Chip Awards have been won by outlets serving MSC-certified fish

Chip Shop of the Year was Simpson’s in Cheltenham, followed by Kingfisher’s of Plymouth, which also won the Good Catch Award for its commitment to sustainable sourcing. It currently serves 13 certified species, including cod and haddock from the Arctic sea, pollock, salmon and kippers. George Clark, for the Marine Stewardship Council, said, “We’re delighted that for the fourth year running, the top industry award for the fish and chip sector has been won by an MSC-certified chippy”. The MSC is the world’s most recognised certification and ecolabelling scheme for sustainable seafood. More information on Sustain’s Sustainable Fish Cities campaign can be found here
