Caterer Ampersand challenged to improve animal welfare by London Food Link supporters

London Food Link supporters have written to the Old Royal Naval College asking the attraction to serve only cage-free eggs in their catering. Today, London Food Link delivered the 300 names to the caterer Ampersand inside a 'symbolic' plastic egg.

London Food Link’s Cage-Free Capital campaign is urging London boroughs and visitor attractions to turn their backs on cruelty by serving only cage-free eggs. The campaign highlights the suffering of caged hens and encourages caterers to switch to cage-free eggs as a first step for improving animal welfare standards within catering.

Caterer Ampersand (part of larger company CH&Co) serves hundreds of thousands of visitors at some of London’s most loved attractions, including the Old Royal Naval College. Other caterers, including Elior UK at the National Maritime Museum also in Greenwich, are already serving cage-free eggs after a similar action from London Food Link supporters. It is hoped that Ampersand will be encouraged to follow other caterers and move towards eggs that are kinder to hens.

Among London boroughs, only 17 out of 33 currently source cage-free eggs, which will be highlighted in this year's Good Food for London report published later in December.
