Culture Strategy Accepts London Food Link arguments

The strategy now makes a point of including food as an important cultural and ethnic issue and outlines support for the new mayoral food Board London Food..
Congratulations are in order to London Food Link members! Last autumn we submitted a response to the Mayor's consultation on the draft culture strategy, which had very little mention of food. Despite being told at the time that the scope of the strategy could not incorporate food issues, we felt this was short-sighted and made a robust response, informed by our membership. The final strategy now makes a point of including food as an important cultural and ethnic issue and outlines support for the new mayoral food Board London Food, which we have been directly involved in establishing.

This means that London Food Link has, to date, positively secured stronger policies on food and farming in:

(i) the regional food and farming strategy (Government Office for the South East),
(ii) the Mayor's Spatial Development Strategy (aka The London Plan) and now
(iii) the Mayor's Culture Strategy.

The final edition of the culture strategy can be viewed at www.london.gov.uk then select the buttons for the strategy pages.
