Good Food For London

How London boroughs can help secure a healthy and sustainable food future

In our annual London borough and series of , we shine a light on which boroughs are demonstrating strong leadership and which are lagging behind.

Since 2002, London Food Link has been campaigning for a good food system that benefits all Londoners. We aim to act as the voice for good food in the capital and ensure that healthy, ethical and sustainable food remains an issue on the political plate. Good Food for London is our annual report on how local authorities are addressing these issues at the borough level.

Our working definition for good food is that it should be produced, processed, bought, sold and eaten in ways that provide social benefits, contribute to thriving local economies that create good jobs and secure livelihoods, enhance the health and variety of both plants and animals (and the welfare of farmed and wild creatures), protect natural resources such as water and soil, and help to tackle climate change.

Each year we work with partner organisations to collect data on a variety of food-related measures that demonstrate the boroughs’ progress. In addition, every council receives a questionnaire in order to provide additional information about their work. The data is then analysed to illustrate which boroughs are leading the way and where there is room for improvement, presented in the league table, maps and full report.

Good Food For London is produced by London Food Link

London Food Link is the umbrella for all of Sustain's initiatives in London. Our work includes helping to influence local government policy, hands-on food growing training, running sessions for public sector caterers, creating guidance for independent eateries and food producers, public awareness campaigns, and joining the dots between people around specific food issues.
