Reports Sustainable Farming Campaign

Published: Tuesday 29 July 2025

Sustain’s submission to the Farm Profitability Review highlights the critical role of farm profitability in achieving the UK government’s goals on environmental sustainability, food security, and public health. It argues that the current high-input, yield-maximising farming model is financially unsustainable and ecologically damaging, and calls for a transition to agroecological, low-input systems that improve profitability, resilience, and environmental outcomes.

To derisk the agricultural transition, Sustain recommends improving supply chain fairness, rewarding farmers for “public goods” through Environmental Land Management payments, and supporting farmer-farmer cooperation and innovation.
