London Grown breaks ground on new market garden site

Final touches are being added to a brand new community market garden and education hub created by a dedicated workers' co-operative on the border of Haringey and Enfield, North London.

Over the last few months, hard work has gone into clearing a seven-acre plot of derelict land, unused for 20 years, to develop a new market garden, construct an education space and build a compost toilet.

Volunteers gathered at London Grown on 3rd October to remove bramble roots in preparation for a tractor to plough the field ready for the planting season.

Anyone keen to be involved in the next stage of the garden’s development can lend a hand on the 15 October for the Mega Mulch from 11am until 4pm. Volunteer tasks will include helping cover the land for winter, planting bulbs and of course, removing even more brambles.

All ages are welcome and volunteers should bring gardening clothes and sturdy footwear, as well as food for a communal picnic, to Queensland Avenue, N18 1AT.
