The benefits of 3D farming

The event on 22 May focuses on the benefis of agroforestry, the thinking being that growing upwards as well as at ground level  increases productivity, making the best use of light, nutrients and moisture.

Sustain member the Soil Association is co-organising a conference in Cranfield to highlight the benefits of agroforestry -- the practice of planting crops and trees together. A major review for its Land Use Policy Group found that agroforestry was one of the systems with the greatest potential for the ‘sustainable intensification’ of farming. Fellow-organisers are the Woodland Trust and the Royal Forestry Society. The event will bring together famers, foresters and researchers to make the case that new farming and land use policies should help to accelerate the uptake of agroforestry and the public benefits that it delivers.
