Food under the greenwood trees

The Soil Association is co-organising a conference to champion the benefits of agroforestry -- the practice of planting crops and trees together.

In a major review of land use policy, Sustain member the Soil Association found that agroforestry, though not widely practised, was nevertheless one of the agricultural systems that held most potential for the ‘sustainable intensification’ of farming. Hence this conference.

Fellow-organisers are the Woodland Trust and the Royal Forestry Society. The event will bring together farmers, foresters and researchers to make the case that new farming and land use policies should help to accelerate the uptake of agroforestry and the public benefits that it delivers. The conference takes place on 22 June at Cranfield University: full details here.
