65 per cent increase in antibiotic use worldwide

Calls to reduce antibiotic use as new research finds huge increase in their use - mostly in poorer nations.

An international team of researchers at the Center for Disease Dynamics, Economics and Policy in Washington DC found a 65% increase in worldwide consumption of antibiotics between 2000 - 2015.

Overuse of antibiotics in animals is contributing to the danger of antibiotic resistance. The Alliance to Save Our Antibiotics was co-founded by Sustain and campaigns to stop the overuse of antibiotics in animal farming.
