Defra plans to support UK wine growers

The Government will support British vineyards by releasing soil and water data to help identify new sites for cultivation.

The Goverrnment has announced plans to boost the UK's wine industry, which is aiming for a 10-fold increase in exports, from 250,000 bottles to 2.5 million bottles, by 2020.

The plans emerged from the first ever English Wine Round Table, recently convened by Defra. The Governent intends to make data available on soil types, water resources and infrastructure networks, to support the industry and help growers to identify new production sites across the country.
