"Seafood Champions are stewards and leaders who serve as important voices for a healthy ocean," said Dawn M. Martin, president of SeaWeb. "Through innovation and leadership, Seafood Champions are paving a path for a healthy seafood marketplace. We look forward to receiving a strong and varied pool of nominees to join with other Seafood Champions in leading voices for a healthy ocean."

The Seafood Champion Awards ceremony will be held at the 10th International Seafood Summit in Hong Kong, September 6-8, 2012. SeaWeb's annual seafood summit brings together global representatives from the seafood industry and the conservation community for in-depth discussions, presentations and networking with the goal of making the seafood marketplace environmentally, socially and economically sustainable.

The theme of the 10th International Seafood Summit is "Evolving solutions for new horizons," with issues ranging from food security and keystone species, including sharks, tuna, and salmon, to supply chain traceability issues; Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing; artisanal fisheries, and social capital. The summit is attended by a diverse group of seafood industry professionals and has grown exponentially, with the past two summits being completely sold out. SeaWeb is the only international, non-profit organisation exclusively using the science of communications to fundamentally shift the way people interact with the ocean. To accomplish this important goal, SeaWeb convenes forums where economic, policy, social and environmental interests converge to improve ocean heath. We transform knowledge into action by shining a spotlight on workable, science-based solutions to the most serious threats facing the ocean, such as climate change, pollution and depletion of marine life. We work collaboratively with targeted sectors to encourage market solutions, policies and behaviors that result in a healthy, thriving ocean. By informing and empowering diverse ocean voices and conservation champions, SeaWeb is creating a culture of ocean conservation. Follow us on Twitter: @SeaWeb_org.

Seafood Choices is an international programme of SeaWeb that provides leadership and creates opportunities for change across the seafood industry and ocean conservation community. We seek to create synergies and help identify creative solutions to long-held challenges. By building relationships and stimulating dialogue, Seafood Choices is encouraging and challenging all sectors of the seafood industry along the road toward sustainability.
