News Real Bread Campaign

Published: Friday 10 January 2025

Calling all professional and hobby Real Bread bakers in Scotland! Online entries for The Scottish Bread Championship are now open.

Created in 2017, the Championship remains the only major awards to set the Real Bread Campaign’s definition as a minimum criterion across all categories.

Judging will take place during Real Bread Week, with products to be delivered to Bowhouse in Fife on Friday 14 February for tasting.  The winners will be announced at The Scottish Festival of Real Bread on the following day at the same venue.

You can find full details and entry form (£5 per product) on The Edinburgh Bakers’ Trust website.

About

The Scottish Bread Championship is run and sponsored by Scotland The Bread and Scottish Food Guide, with support from The Edinburgh Bakers Trust.

The founders, Andrew Whitley and Wendy Barrie, say: 'The Championship might be a competition but it’s also a celebration. We’d like to encourage you to work towards submitting your best loaf, not necessarily trying to beat everyone else’s, and are here to support everyone towards the ultimate result – baking the loaf you want.'

They add: 'our grateful thanks to our friends, families and colleagues who give their time and enthusiasm to help us on the days. They do this on a purely voluntary basis and we really appreciate it.’

*Not actually called this but Chris from the Real Bread Campaign thinks it should be.
