DEFRA's new Great British Food Unit are using food brands to 'turbo-charge UK food exports.'
DEFRA say UK brands such as Weetabix (60% owned by Chinese food manufacturing company Bright Food) Cadbury chocolate fingers (owned by US giant Mondelez International) and Yorkshire Tea (owned by Yorkshire based Bettys and Taylors Group) can help double UK food and drink exports. To mark the launch Weetabix pledged to source all its wheat from local farmers.
