Created and run since 2013 by the Real Bread Campaign, #SourdoughSeptember unites people around the globe in the annual, international celebration of genuine sourdough bread.
Sourdough September 2025 is the 13th year of raising awareness (and dough), encouraging people to:
The Campaign invites (micro)bakeries, mills, bakery / cookery schools, pizerrias / eateries, schools, care homes, community groups and everyone else to get involved in line with the above, in whatever ways work for them.

Fundraising is vital to the future of the Real Bread Campaign. Key ways that everyone can help to enable the food and farming charity Sustain to keep running the Campaign:
The Campaign calls on all Real Bread bakeries and activity organisers to invite every customer to add a doughnation when buying bread, booking a class, or receiving free sorudough starter during the month.
The suggested amount (eg 50p or £1), and whether this is limited to certain purchases, is up to each business. If you plan to do this, please email the Campaign for our charity’s details.
2025 also sees the 10th anniversary of the Real Bread Campaign coining the word sourfaux to highlight the corporate hijack of ‘sourdough’ to promote products produced by other means.
To mark the occasion, people can download stickers to print on A4 sheets of 24 round labels.
#SourdoughSeptember is an awareness-raising initiative and social media is essential to this. Whether buying, baking or organising activities, please post and mention the Real Bread Campaign in the caption.
