Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a form of farming where the risks and rewards are shared between farmers and members of the community.
CSA works in different ways. CSA members may pay in advance for their produce, invest in shares in the farm, and/or help out with growing and harvesting. All farmers and members aim to increase transparency, sustainability and resilience in the UK's food system. Farmers can earn a decent price for their produce, and consumers know the farmers who grow their food. According to CSA UK chair Robert Simpson, 'It’s one of the most radical ways that we can re-take control and ownership of our food system'.
1 October 2016 marks CSA's first ever Open Day, with nearly 30 CSAs around the country taking part, organising tours and other activities.
