Applications for the new £900 million Countryside Stewardship Scheme formally opened on the 1st July 2015.
Defra said that the CSS grants will help pay for thousands of agreements across the country, focussing on protecting wildlife and nature, help for bees and pollinators, creating and maintaining woodland and promoting cleaner water or reducing flooding. However farmers expressed some concerns about the scheme.
