A few crumbs about the scheme

In 2011, the Real Bread Campaign launched The Real Bread Loaf Mark, followed in 2020 by The Sourdough Loaf Mark. The scheme helps bakeries, retailers and eateries give their customers an at-a-glance visual guide to which of their products are Real Bread and which are genuine sourdough Real Bread.

The scheme is not a replacement for full ingredient labelling, for which the Campaign continues to lobby as part of its proposed Honest Crust Act. In the meantime, the Campaign urges Loaf Mark licensees (and all other bakeries and retailers) to display full ingredient lists, even when not legally required to do so.

The Loaf Mark is not an accreditation, award, certification, membership or assurance scheme and participation is separate from being a Real Bread Campaign supporter.

The two versions of The Loaf Mark are used on a product-by-product basis - some businesses that participate in the scheme only sell Real Bread, while others also offer products that fall outside the Campaign’s definition.

Real Bread Campaign: The Real Bread Campaign finds and shares ways to make bread better for us, better for our communities and better for the planet. Whether your interest is local food, community-focussed small enterprises, honest labelling, therapeutic baking, or simply tasty toast, everyone is invited to become a Campaign supporter.
