Where can I get Real Bread?

People often ask the Real Bread Campaign where they can get their mitts on delicious, nutritious Real Bread. Your main two options are to make it our buy it.

BIY

Bake it yourself! Whether by hand or dragging out an under-used machine, making your own Real Bread is simple, doesn’t take much of your time and (because you don’t have a small bakery’s staff costs, overheads etc.) very affordable.

We have tips and around 100 free recipes on our website, which is also where you can buy our Real Bread books.

Real Bread Map

We invite every bakery that makes one or more products that meet our Real Bread definition to add their details, for free, to the Real Bread Map. If your local bakery is missing, please pass on this invitation!

For answers to general FAQ, click on the button on the map page. If you have any questions about a particular bakery, please contact them.

We also encourage public sector caterers, supermarkets and other Big Bakers to make Real Bread available more widely.

Look for The Loaf Mark!

While you’re out and about, keep your eyes peeled for The Real Bread Loaf Mark and The Sourdough Loaf Mark. Here’s the current (2 December 2025) list of more than 180 bakeries licensed to use The Loaf Mark.

Some sell from one site, others from multiple locations - including at least two brands that are available in UK supermarkets. Outside the UK

The Loaf Mark is a visual aid created by the Real Bread Campaign, that helps each bakery give its own at-a-glance assurance to shoppers that a particular product is Real Bread, or genuine sourdough specifically. We urge all bakeries to display full ingredients lists (on packaging, labels or point of sale signage), even when not legally required to do so.

Some bakeries only produce Real Bread, others also offer products that fall outside the Campaign’s definition. The Loaf Mark isn't an award, accreditation, standard or certification scheme. Find out more.
