Europe steps up the battle against Antimicrobial Resistance

The European Commission has launched a new Action Plan to tackle Antimicrobial Resistance, increasingly seen as an urgent threat to human health, and an issue with major implications for the factory farming of animals.
 

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is already responsible for 25,000 deaths in the EU every year. The European Commission's latest Action Plan (its second on the topic) aims to accelerate efforts to address resistance in both humans and animals.
 
The Action Plan is built around 3 pillars: making Europe a 'best practice' region; boosting research, development and innovation; and shaping the global agenda. Read more here.
