Join the conversation with Bridging the Gap partners as we dish up the details of our latest report on public sector food procurement: How to make school food work for children, farmers and planet.
Three pilots have demonstrated that supplying organic fruit and veg from small farmers and suppliers into school meals could drive a substantial market for UK growers, whilst keeping profits in local communities and feeding children healthy and sustainable food.
The school pilots demonstrated that increased public investment not only supported local farmers but also led to over 75,000 children eating organic fruit and veg in their school meals, with a third of those children living in low-income communities.
