London’s larder is open as Urban Food Fortnight begins

Urban Food Fortnight kicks off today, and with almost 100 events celebrating all that is grown, made, cooked, saved, foraged and fermented in the capital, get ready to slurp, sip and sample the good stuff.

London will see pop-ups, supper clubs, open days, workshops, special menus, and tasting events filling stomachs and opening minds until 7 October. The Urban Food Fortnight Map is brimming with options for everyone, whether you’re looking for a hands-on masterclass, or to just kick back with some quality beer.

The annual Urban Food Fortnight is organised by London Food Link, the voice of good food in the capital. It connects thousands of Londoners with the best of the local good food scene, as well as shining the spotlight on the growers, makers, teachers, cooks and more behind it. These unique events provide a one-off chance for city-dwellers to dine on special, and sometimes unusual, hyper-local menus, uncover hidden food growing gardens on their doorstep or join the fight against food waste.

Here are 6 #UFF2018 events that we’re especially excited about:

Lady Ottoline Takeover at East London Liquor Company
26 September, East London Liquor Company, E3
One for the gin lovers, as a friends at East London Liquor Company in Bow, collaborate with The Lady Ottoline’s head chef Tom Haste who will taking over for one night only with a special 6 course meal filled with locally sourced ingredients, along with paired cocktails curated by the ELLC skilled bar team. £5 from each ticket will be donated to London Food Link!

Wolves Lane Open Farm Sundays
23, 30 September, 7 October, Wolves Lane Horticultural Centre, N22
Get your hands on produce and plants grown on site every Sunday during Urban Food Fortnight, while exploring this urban farm and community food hub. Or want to get stuck into the produce? Join their Farm to Table supper club on Thursday 4 October, in a former plant nursey that is home a family of Koi.

Cider Tasting and Meet the Makers at The Orchard Project
30 September, The Orchard Project Cider House, E17
Did you know that you can sip on cider and apple juice made 100% from London apples? Get down to the Orchard Project’s Cider House to taste these local brews, and in the spirit of urban food sharing, you can even bring along spare apples from your garden in exchange for cider.

The Business of Food
3 October, 42 Acres Shoreditch, EC2
Expand your mind as well as your stomach at the first of a 5 part series exploring the present and future of food through farming techniques, technology, and businesses shaping the landscape for good, this event will focus on the innovative companies improving food waste, and a panel discussion including the founders of Olio and Farmdrop. LFL supporters get a discount on tickets!

Hiver Beers x Toast Ale: Collaboration Launch Party
4 October, Hiver Beers and Taproom, SE1
These two London brewers have collaborated on a special edition beer for Urban Food Fortnight, brewed in Bermondsey using locally sourced surplus Real Bread (from St. JOHN Bakery and Today Bread), and honey from London’s urban bee keepers. Get down to its launch for a taste of this very special brew.
