UN report blames deforestation on government subsidies

The report estimates 80% of global deforestation is due to agriculture with government subsidies for farming often the underlying driver.

 

The UN say policy makers rarely realise the implications of subsidies for inputs such as fertilizers and irrigation water, which can waste resources and have a big environmental impact.
