Knead Peace is a volume of baking recipes inspired by Anna Makievska and her team at The Bakehouse, Kyiv. They continue to bake genuine sourdough bread around the clock during the Russian invasion, distributing up to 1000 free loaves a day to soldiers, hospitals, older people and those who live in cities hit by Russia. Makievska said: “Baking connects good people and lets them understand each other no matter what language they speak.”

The Knead Peace initiative was founded by chef Andrew Green with the belief that the baking community has the power to make a difference. £2.50 from every copy sold in the UK will be donated to the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal of the Disasters Emergency Committee, who help to provide food, water, shelter, healthcare and protection to families fleeing from conflict.
