New figures from the Food Standards Agency show that all the major retailers failed to meet targets for reducing campylobacter, a potentially serious food bug mainly found on raw poultry, which is the biggest cause of food poisoning in the UK.
The survey tested about 4000 samples of whole raw chickens, bought from UK retail outlets and independent stores between February 2014 and February 2015. Richard Lloyd of Which? said: "It beggars belief that nearly three-quarters of chickens on sale in supermarkets are still infected with this potentially deadly bug and that no retailers have met the FSA's target."
