Honest Crust Act next steps

The Real Bread Campaign has finished its consulation of supporters on what to do next on loaf labelling and marketing honesty and transparency.

The overwhelming majority of respondents (98%) to a recent survey favoured the Campaign concentrating its efforts on running a higher profile campaign to call for stronger UK regulations to protect shoppers from being misled, with the creation of guidance in the meantime. Read more.

A smaller number backed contacting baking industry organisations to discuss the possibility of agreeing to self-regulation. Also less popular than the call for government regulation was working to secure Traditional Speciality Guaranteed status. A TSG would not cover all of the labelling and marketing issues and, as an EU scheme, would no longer be binding after Britain leaves the union.
