Published: Wednesday 22 January 2025

From 31 March 2025, all workplaces - businesses and other non-domestic premises - in England have a legal duty to separate recyclables and food waste from general waste.

Microbusinesses, with 10 or fewer full-time employees, have until 31 March 2027 to comply but are encouraged to start separating their waste streams sooner.

Defra has published full details on the gov.uk website.

The Real Bread Campaign has published No Loaf Lost guidance to help small bakeries reduce waste and the amount of surplus they generate in the first place.
