New fund for redistributing surplus food

The government has put £500,000 into a new Food Waste Reduction Fund. The money is available for charities who redistribute surplus food to those who need it.

Launched by the Secretary of State in December, the fund is managed through WRAP. The new Food Waste Reduction Fund will provide grants for specific projects; be that fridges, vehicles, IT systems or for training staff and volunteers.

The money is only available for charities and organisations who redistribute surplus food to those in need - it cannot be used to tackle the problem of reducing surplus production.
