Broccoli and cauliflower the most rejected veg

As Scotland launches a campaign to encourage vegetable consumption, a survey shows that a third of parents have given up even trying to feed their kids greens.

How did vegetables attract such a bad reputation? A survey commissioned by the Scottish government reveals the daily struggles taking place as parents present their children with vegetables, and children refuse to eat them. A third of parents reported they had become so frustrated they had given up.

Scotland's Eat Better, Feel Better healthy eating initiative is trying to improve this situation, starting with a campaign that challenges children to try a new vegetable every day for five days. Children at a healthy living hub in Glasgow set the ball rolling by trying broccoli and cauliflower for the first time – the two vegetables that top the list of veg most often rejected by children.

The campaign aims to support parents to help them make healthier changes to the way they shop, cook and eat. Find out more at the Eat Better, Feel Better website here, and read more here about Sustain's campaigning work to improve children's diets.
