The Food for Life catering mark was devised by Sustain member the Soil Association to help consumers know whether caterers were sourcing food sustainably, and to enable caterers to communicate their efforts to do so. Launched just over seven years ago, the mark now applies to 1.6 million meals every day. Market research suggested that the new name would work better both for consumers and for users of the mark.
The three-level award is not exclusively about organics: the entry or Bronze level mainly assures that caterers supply fresh, traceable food that meets nutritional guidelines.
