GM Freeze, as its name suggests, calls for a freeze on the development and spread of genetically modified (GM) food crops. It argues that there is persistent public alarm over the technology, and that governments need to stop and think about its huge implications, and the questions that remain to be answered about its safety and impact. It contends that GM crops support environmentally damaging farming practices, reduce biodiversity, and have led to the development of resistant 'super-weeds'.
GM Freeze has now put out an 'Urgent Action Alert' on a new application from Rothamsted Research for an open-air field trial of GM wheat. It is calling on anyone with concerns to submit an objection to Defra by 21 December, details
