Government responds to children's food organisations on free school meals
Children's Food Campaign, School Food Matters and other organisations have written three times to the Department for Education about free school meals during school closure. Today Education Minister Vicky Ford has responded.
We were pleased to receive a response from the Education Minister Vicky Ford MP on 1 April 2020, addressing many of the points we have raised with the Department for Education during the past week over the provision of healthy free school meals to children now at home during school closures.
We will continue to press on a number of issues regarding support for existing catering arrangements schools have already established, the need for provision to continue during school holiday periods, and how to support local good practice.
We're very interested in hearing the views of school leaders, catering providers, local authorities in order to keep feeding these into the Department for Education - please email barbara@sustainweb.org or fran@sustainweb.org if you would like to share what is working and not working at local level for you.
