The maps and charts show that while the organic share of Europe's crop area has almost doubled since 2002, it is still just under 6% of the total.
On the other hand, Europe has 27% of the world's total organically farmed land, compared with just 7% in North America (and 40% in Australia and New Zealand).
While the Germans, French and British are the biggest consumers, Austria, Sweden and Estonia have the largest proportions of organically farmed land.
The online news magazine Euractiv, which produced the graphic, points out that the EU is currently considering how to regulate the organic sector. The outcome of the deliberations could have a big impact on how organic food develops.
