Reports: How can improved food labelling contribute to a healthy and sustainable food system?
Food labelling should help consumers to eat healthily and to use their buying power to support sustainable food and farming. However, food labelling is currently confusing, with new proposals to label food for health and sustainability hotly contested by the food industry and government. This 36-page report was prepared as a technical submission to the Quality of Life Commission in 2007. It investigates the history and purpose of food labelling, and explores how food labelling could be used to support public policy goals, to improve health and the sustainability of the food system.

News: Scottish Community Food Fund to Promote Local Food and Drink
Get your applications in for the next round of the Scottish Community Food Fund which aims to promote local food and drink. Financed by the Scottish government, the fund would welcome applications from community food and health groups that want to support the development of food trails and network or establish local food and drink events. The closing date for applications is 4th June.

These three combined reports share the learning from pioneering projects taking part in the Food Supply and Distribution strand of the Making Local Food Work programme. It explores different elements that can form part of buidling a sustainable food hub and looks at some of the challenges and issues that they face. In particular, it looks at issues around supplying food access projects, distributing surplus from allotments; and adding value through catering services.
