Supporting your council to drive change on food systems, policy and practice
Our approach
Sustain’s Local Action team offer bespoke support to councils, food partnerships and other organisations to develop food-related strategies and action plans, or to explore where next on food system issues.
We provide advice, insights and research using our experience as well as access to a wealth of expertise across food and farming, including national and place-based organisations, councils and food networks to help you drive local change through food policy and practice.

With over 20 years’ experience working with local authorities, Government agencies, civil society and socially-driven businesses, Sustain brings a track record of securing policy change, facilitating collaboration and codeveloping action plans to drive food system transformation. Our services include:
- One-to-one advice and support for those leading food systems work locally
- Food System Workshops for councils and other organisations to identify priority food system challenges, opportunities and collective ownership of solutions involving diverse actors and stakeholders
- Strategy development and action planning: this could be focused on a theme such as food poverty or food growing, or a whole food system approach.
