In early 2025, PAN UK advertised for a Director on Roots to Work and recently got in touch to share their positive recruitment experience.

Josie Cohen, Head of Policy and Campaigns, told us,

PAN UK found its amazing new Director, Jonathan Worthy-Pauling, via Roots to Work. We advertised the vacancy in a range of places, some of which were quite expensive for a small charity. Finding someone from within the family of the Sustain Alliance has made a huge difference.

You can read the announcement of Jonathan's appointment on the PAN UK website.

As a free jobs and employability platform, Roots to Work can be used to advertise and find roles in the field of good food. Open to organisations within and beyond the Sustain alliance, across farming, hospitality, campaigning, policy, and much more, it has become the go to platform for many organisations in this movement.

The weekly jobs round up and social media posts engage thousands of jobseekers weekly, all connected by shared values of creating a better food system.

Josie added,

Our previous Director had been with us for 15 years, so we were nervous about the transition to a new leader. However, because we were all Sustain Alliance members it has felt like bringing in an old friend, just with new ideas and energy! Through Sustain we were already united by common principles and approaches. I would urge anyone recruiting to try Roots to Work to find someone who aligns with their values and visions for the future.

The Roots to Work platform is not just for employers - we also aim to educate and support job hunters through regular blogs featuring stories on people working in the sector and meaningful initiatives that will support the sector flourish. We also have a range of resources that explore the range of careers in the sector and help jobseekers on their employability path.

Employers can also access resources: from how to develop job roles to having inclusive recruitment practices. This is all equally as important to us to demonstrate being a sustainable and ethical employer, beyond your core organisational cause.

If you're looking for inspiration on how to grow your sustainable food career, check out our blogs and resources which aim to educate and support you on your journey.
