International links: Europe

Sustain has links with the following organisations in Europe:

  • BEUC – the European Consumers’ Organisation. The following link is to the BEUC food page, which gives details of the organisation's work to improve consumer food choice, food information and food safety, whilst also protecting children's health:  www.beuc.eu/Content/Default.asp?PageID=2139
  • European Public Health and Agriculture Consortium, which is an alliance of health non-governmental organisations that advocate a health-promoting Common Agricultural Policy. www.healthyagriculture.eu
  • European Heart Network, which to prevent and reduce cardiovascular diseases, in particular heart disease and stroke, through advocacy, networking, education and patient support, so that they are no longer a major cause of premature death and disability throughout Europe. www.ehnheart.org
  • European Public Health Alliance, whose aim is to promote and protect the health of all people living in Europe and to advocate for greater participation of citizens in health-related policy making at the European level. This is a link to the EPHA food and agriculture page: www.epha.org/r/17

This project ran from 2008 to 2010 and aimed to develop new educational approaches on sustainable food production and consumption. The project was led by Risteco in Italy, and created a network of expertise among eight sustainable food and farming organisations across five European countries, including Sustain in the UK.  For more information see these websites:
