Each time food waste figures are published, ‘bread’ tends to be near the top of the discard pile – though we’re pretty sure most of that is additive-laden industrial dough product, rather than actual bread.
Anyway, environmental charity Hubbub has opened its Eat It Up Fund to expressions of interest from ‘innovators with creative solutions to tackle food waste.’ Six winners will each be awarded £60,000 to develop their ideas over a 12-month period.
Hubbub is looking for proposals that:
Applicants need to either have projects that have been tested and are ready to scale-up or projects that are in the earlier stages of planning, with a concept ready to test.
Feel free to crib ideas from the Real Bread Campaign’s No Loaf Lost project – just give us credit if you do!
Maybe there’s something around upcycling surplus Real Bread as beer, pasta, or in the dough for the next bake.
The fund is open to UK registered organisations including charities, social enterprises, Community Interest Companies, schools, universities and colleges, local authorities and micro/small businesses with a clear social purpose.
[Sadly, the Real Bread Campaign can’t apply as - though the Eat it Up Fund is run by a charity – the cash comes from a multinational coffee shop chain, so it goes against our charity’s funding policy…]
Applications close on 14 June 2024.
